CBP Officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry Execute a Double Play and Seize Over $749K Worth of Narcotics and Undeclared Currency
(Press Release) EAGLE PASS, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers at the Camino Real Bridge intercepted a substantial amount of hard narcotics worth over $749K in a single enforcement action along with a pistol, vehicle and over $10K in undeclared currency in separate unrelated incidents on Tuesday, April 21.
“Our frontline officers continue to steadfastly uphold our border security mission. These seizures are a direct reflection of our continuous commitment to keeping our borders safe and secure,” said Port Director Paul Del Rincon, Eagle Pass, Port of Entry.
The first enforcement action occurred on April 21 after CBP officers assigned to outbound operations referred a 2004 Chevy Silverado driven by a 49-year-old Mexican citizen traveling to Mexico for examination. Upon physical inspection of the vehicle and subject’s personal belongings, a Chiappa .22 revolver and $10,290 of undeclared currency were discovered. The pistol, vehicle and currency were seized by CBP. The case was turned over to Eagle Pass Police Department for further investigation.
Later that afternoon, a 2011 Dodge Durango was referred for inspection. A subsequent canine and non-intrusive imaging system inspection resulted in CBP officers discovering 30 packages containing 37.5 pounds of alleged methamphetamine. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $749,564.
CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicle and the case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
