Eagle Pass Independent School District to Offer Remote Instruction to All Students

Eagle Pass Independent School District (EPISD) Superintendent Samuel Mijares issued a press release on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 announcing the local school district’s decision to close normal district operations and move into remote instruction until further notice due to the Coronavirus pandemic affecting Eagle Pass and the United States for the purpose to support the nation’s need to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
Superintendent Mijares stated that the EPISD is “asking for all full-time and part-time employees with benefits (professionals, para-professionals, and manual trades) to report to work on Monday, March 23, 2020 at their regular work schedule.”
Mijares added that the local school district will “begin to offer curbside meals for our students beginning on Monday, March 23, 2020 with breakfast offered between 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. and lunch will be offered from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. “ at designated campuses around the District, including Henry B. Gonzalez Elementary, Liberty Elementary, Perfecto Mancha Elementary, Pete Gallego Elementary, Rosita Valley Elementary, Eagle Pass Junior HIgh, and Memorial Junior HIgh.
Mijares noted that “our health officials report that cases are continuing to spread in the state, and an increase in confirmed cases in our country seems likely. We are coordinating with other school districts inn Region 20 and will present more information as it becomes available.”
Mijares highlighted that “this is a quickly changing situation, and we will continue to monitor information, assess conditions throughout the week, and provide the next update via our website and email. For questions or concerns, all employees should direct them to their immediate supervisor.”
Mijares concluded that these measures are to “ensure that all members of the District’s community stay safe and healthy.”
