CBP Officers at Eagle Pass Import Lot Apprehend FAST driver with Personal Use Marijuana
EAGLE PASS, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations officers at the Eagle Pass import lot apprehended a commercial truck driver attempting to smuggle personal use marijuana.
“Our frontline officers continue to steadfastly uphold our border security mission. The apprehension of a Free And Secure Trade (FAST) driver with marijuana helps maintain the integrity of the FAST lane,” said Port Director Paul Del Rincon, Eagle Pass Port of Entry.
The apprehension occurred on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the Eagle Pass Import Lot. CBP officers conducted a preprimary examination on a 26 year old male Mexican citizen arriving from Mexico in a commercial truck, and referred him to secondary for further inspection due to a K-9 alert to the vehicle. CBP officers conducted a physical inspection of the vehicle and the driver which resulted in the discovery of a baggie containing 2.32 grams of marijuana. CBP seized the narcotics. The driver was arrested and the case was turned over to Maverick County Sherriff’s Office for further investigation.
“In order for the FAST program to enable U.S. Customs and Border Protection to offer expedited clearance to those carriers and importers that have made a commitment to increase the security of their supply chain, and who have enrolled in the Customs-Trade Partnership against Terrorism (C-TPAT), they must utilize FAST approved commercial drivers to import qualifying goods and all United States laws and program rules must be upheld,” said Port Director Paul Del Rincon, Eagle Pass Port of Entry. Anyone who fails to comply will be removed from the program and will be held to the highest consequences of the law.
