2020 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Benefits Local Youths

The 2020 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale (MCJLS) held during January 22-25, 2020 in Eagle Pass, Texas benefitted over 300 local 4-H and Future Farmers of America (FFA) members, announced Tim Hardt, President of the Maverick County Junior Livestock Association.
Auctioneer Oscar San Miguel of Del Rio, Texas animated the many buyers at the MCJLS Sale held on Saturday, January 25th, and crooned his auctioneering magic to raise the maximum possible sale prices for each animal auctioned.
The top eight Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion animals sold for $50,600 to kick off the 2020 MCJLS Sale as 175 animals were sold at auction.
The 2020 MCJLS Grand Champion Market Steer exhibited by Roberto Martinez, Jr. fetched $15,000 after the bidding gavel fell on the table, purchased by Jimmy Neutze and Family of Uvalde, Texas.
The Grand Champion Market Hogshown by Roccia Moreno garnered $5,700 from Ancira Ford Chrysler Dodge Jeep of Eagle Pass at the auction.
The Grand Champion Market Goat exhibited by Javier Molina sold for $5,600 to H.E.B. of Eagle Pass, Texas at auction.
The Grand Champion Market Lamb shown by Arturo Molina sold for $5,400 to I.B.C. Bank of Eagle Pass, Texas at auction.
The Reserve Grand Champion Market Steer exhibited by Ivan Rodriguez sold for $6,500 to The Nevarez Law Group of Eagle Pass.
The Reserve Grand Champion Market Hog shown by Nathan Sanchez sold for $4,800 to Langley and Banack of Eagle Pass.
The Reserve Grand Champion Market Goat exhibited by Samantha Molina garnered $4,000 from Jimmy Neutze and Family and the Commercial Light and Sign Company, both of Uvalde.
The Reserve Grand Champion Market Lamb shown by Anahi Molina sold for $3,600 to The Morris and Dora Libson and Family of Eagle Pass.
In addition to the exhibition and sale of show animals, the 2020 MCJLS featured an Art, Photography, and Food Show for local adults and youths to participate in, a Western Beauty Contest, a Texas-style Bar-B-Que Plate Sale, and a Western Dance to wind down the 2020 festivities.
The annual Jesus Sanchez Community Cowboy Breakfast held on Tuesday, January 21st, kicked-off the 2020 MCJLS activities with over 700 attendees, sponsored by the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce and the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Association.
The 2020 MCJLS was a great success with many local youths and adults volunteering in the production of the many events. Among the volunteers were Tim Hardt as the General Show Superintendent, Armando De La Cruz as Assistant General Show Superintendent, Stephen Dickerson as Steer Superintendent, Robert Martinez as Assistant Steer Superintendent, Amanda Esqueda as Swin Superintendent, Dennis Polanco, John De Leon, Jenny Polanco, and Verónica Lopez as Assistant Swine Superintendents, AJ Jimenez and Jimmy Barfield as Lamb Superintendent and Lamb Assistant Superintendent, Fito Nava and Nannette Nava and Orlando Nava as Goat Superintendent and Assistant Goat Superintendents, Linda Schmerber and Mirtha Dickerson as Rabbit Superintendent and Assistant Rabbit Superintendent, Dora Barfield and Alma Laura Chapa and Alex Flores as Poultry Superintendent and Assistant Poultry Superintendents, Laura Cardenas as Food and Art Show Superintendent and Pily Hardt and Bianca Garza as Assistant Food and Art Show Superintendents, Olga Ramos and Rosie Willard as Photography Contest Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, and Cindy Flores and Adriana Molina and Elia Jimenez as Young Exhibitors Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents.
The 2020 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Association Board of Directors include Tim Hardt, President, Armando De La Cruz, Vice-President, Ivy Purcell, Secretary, David Rodriguez, Treasurer, and Board Members Joe Jimenez, Frank Flores, and Alma Chapa.
The 2020 MCJLS was dedicated to local retired banker and lifelong supporter of the MCJLS, Sammy Juve. Juve was recognized for his ardent support of the MCJLS for over 40 years. Juve was accompanied by his two sons, Peter and Patrick, and their spouses and children, as well as many friends.
Most importantly, the 2020 MCJLS was a great success due to the many local and out of town businesses, entrepreneurs, and individuals who attended the show and purchased all of the animals sold at the auction. Thank you, buyers.
