Eagle Pass Eagles Battle Edinburg Vela SaberCats in Area Football Championship on November 22nd

The mighty Eagle Pass High School Eagles will battle the Edinburg Vela High School SaberCats for the University Interscholastic League (U.I.L.) Class 6A, Region IV, Division 2 Area Football Championship on Friday, November 22, 2019, at the Laredo United Independent School District Student Activity Complex Football Stadium in Laredo, Texas.
The Eagles enter the Area Championship game with an overall season record of 7-4 and fresh from an incredulous 42-31 Bi-District Championship win over the Pharr San Juan Alamo High School Bears last week on November 15, 2019, rallying from a 31 points deficit with 2:42 minutes remaining in the second quarter to score 42 consecutive unanswered points to snatch the victory over the Bears.
The Edinburg Vela SaberCAts sport an overall season record of 8-3 coming into the Area Championship game, including an impressive 42-35 victory over the Harlingen High School Cardinals in the Bi-District Championship game last week on November 15, 2019.
The Eagles and the SaberCats meet again in the Area Championship round for the second year having last met on November 24, 2017 when the SaberCats defeated the Eagles by the score of 28-10.
The Eagles finished in fourth place in District 29-6A with a 3-3 mark while the SaberCats finished in third place in District 31-6A with a 4-2 record this year. However, in the post-season playoffs, each team’s records go out the window and it is a completely new season with each team having the opportunity to peak and seize the post-season momentum.
The Eagles will seek to avenge their 2017 post-season loss to the SaberCats in their bid to qualify for the regional quarter-final championship.
