Maverick County Commissioners Court approved the purchase of the former “Los Potrillos” Dance Hall real property located at 1823 South Veterans Boulevard in Eagle Pass, Texas at a cost of $650,000 for the future relocation of the Maverick County Tax-Assessor Collector Office and other County Offices at their meeting held on Monday, July 15, 2019.
At a press conference held on Tuesday, July 16, 2019, Maverick County Judge David R. Saucedo announced the formal action taken by Commissioners Court on July 15th to approve the purchase of this real property previously known as the “Los Potrillos” Dance Hall from IBC Bank at a cost of $650,000. Judge Saucedo noted that the real property at 1823 South Veterans Boulevard includes two buildings, one approximately of 20,000 square feet and another with approximately 5,000 square feet.
Judge Saucedo stated that Maverick County was rapidly growing at a fast pace and required office space to relocate the Maverick County Tax-Assessors Collector’s Office, currently housed at 370 North Monroe Street in downtown Eagle Pass, due to the large overcrowding experienced at this office during the past few years. Saucedo noted that the proposed relocation will take approximately two years to complete as Commissioners Court will need to budget in its 2019-2020 fiscal budget the costs of hiring an architect to design and maximize the use of this prime real estate as well as the renovation costs of the property.
Saucedo added that other Maverick County offices will be housed at this new property such as the County Commissioner Precinct 1, Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1, Constable Precinct 1 Office, and other county offices to be determined.
Saucedo stated that the second building located at 1823 South Veterans Boulevard with approximately 5,000 square feet may be used to open a second County Food Pantry Services Office to service the burgeoning southern Maverick County growth and population.
At the July 15th Commissioners Court meeting, Maverick County General Counsel Woody stated that the real estate closing on the purchase of the 1823 South Veterans Boulevard real property is expected within the next 30 days.
Judge Saucedo stated that “the fact that we (Commissioners Court) came up with the $650,000 in a short time shows the economic and fiscal responsibility that Commissioners Court and this Administration have taken.”
Saucedo added that the purchase of this new property will alleviate traffic congestion in downtown Eagle Pass, allow Maverick County to meet the needs of a growing community, and provide service to all county residents, but particularly to those in southern Maverick County.
In other business, Commissioners Court also approved to enter into a sales contract to purchase another real property known as V.F.W. Park in Chula Vista Subdivision in southern Maverick County for the price of $70,000 and authorized that Commissioner Precinct 1 Jerry Morales be the signatory agent for Maverick County on this contract.
In addition, Maverick County Commissioners Court approved a settlement with the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas regarding some real estate easement and real property concerns wherein the Kickapoo Tribe will pay Maverick County the sum of $255,000 for certain property rights.
Judge Saucedo stated that “it was a good day for Maverick County,” referring to Commissioners Court meeting of July 15, 2019 wherein all of these actions were approved by Commissioners to benefit county taxpayers.
