Eagle Pass Little League Softball 10 & Under All-Stars Finish Runner-Up at Texas West State Championship

The feisty Eagle Pass Little League Girls Softball 10 and Under (Minors) All-Stars finished as Runner-Up Champions at the 2019 Little League Softball Texas West State Championship held during July 13-16, 2019 in Abilene, Texas, announced Bobby Rankin, Eagle Pass Little League Softball President.
Before advancing to the Little League Softball Texas West State Championship, the Eagle Pass All-Stars won both the Texas District 35 and Texas West Sectional 3 Championships.
At the 2019 Little League Softball Texas West State Championship, the Eagle Pass All-Stars opened tournament play with crushing the Floydada, Texas All-Stars 22-2 on July 13, 2019.
In their second tournament game on July 14, 2019, the Eagle Pass All-Stars upset the perennial softball powerhouse Waco Midway 6-1, stunning the Waco and Texas West softball aficionados. Waco Midway had to go to the elimination bracket while Eagle Pass remained on the winners bracket. Waco Midway would eventually sweep the elimination bracket to meet Eagle Pass in the State Championship.
In the Texas West State Championship, Eagle Pass only needed one win over Waco Midway while Waco Midway would have to win two consecutive games over Eagle Pass. Both teams were evenly matched and talented.
In the first State Championship game on July 16, 2019, the Eagle Pass All-Stars jumped to an early 2-1 lead in the first inning over Waco Midway and later extended their lead to 5-1 after three innings of play. In the fourth inning, Waco Midway scored two runs to narrow the score to 6-3 in favor of Eagle Pass. But in the fifth inning, Waco Midway bit bats and some unforced errors propelled Waco Midway ahead of Eagle Pass by the score of 8-6. Waco Midway held on to win the first Championship game 8-6 over Eagle Pass.
In the second State Championship game played 30 minutes following the first game, Waco Midway edged Eagle Pass by the tight score of 5-4 to win the Championship while Eagle Pass was relegated to Runner-Up Champions.
The Eagle Pass Little League Girls Softball 10 and Under (Minors) All-Stars include Emily Valdez, Mayda Figueroa, Sofia Gomez, Karina Gomez, Elisa Gomez, Clarissa Morin, Sofia Torres, Victoria Valdez, Itzel Luna, Amber Espinoza, Elena Flores, Daisy Garcia, and Lilian Hurtado. The team manager is Enrique Gomez, Jose Torres is head coach, and assistant coaches are Harold Valdez and Wensito Figueroa.
