Former Eagle Pass Independent School District Educator, Coach and Administrator Pete R. Castillo Passes Away at Age 78

Many Eagle Passans are saddened by the news of former Eagle Pass Independent School District Educator, Coach, and Administrator Pete R. Castillo passed away on Friday, June 28, 2019 at Doctor’s Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg, Texas.

Castillo is fondly remembered by thousands of students who had him as a teacher, athletic coach, and Principal at Eagle Pass High School. In addition, many colleagues, friends, and parents remembered him as a genuinely committed teacher, coach, and administrator with the students’ best interest, always seeking the best effort from his students and co-workers, and having a big hoarse voice with a kind heart for the students he mentored.

Castillo worked for 35 years with the Eagle Pass Independent School District in Eagle Pass, Texas. He loved golfing, barbecues, sports, and spending quality time with family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him and were touched by him in one fashion or another as a teacher, coach, administrator, friend or family member.

Castillo is preceded in death by his father Pete Castillo and his sister Esther Martinez. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Maria P. Castillo; his children Norma Cottrell (Duane), Angelica Castillo Gonzalez (Freddy Jr.), Magaly Ramirez (Alfonso); grandchildren Zachary and Caitlyn Cottrell, Aaron M. And Leanna Gonzalez, Melanie, Alisa, Iban, and Diego Ramirez, his mother Isabel Castillo; his siblings Frank Castillo, Virginia Cleary, Veronica Castillo, and Marylou Castillo; and many nephews and nieces. Pete R. Castillo was born on March 16, 1941 in Lampasas, Texas.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Funeraria Del Angel in Mission, Texas with visitation on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at Funeraria Del Angel, Chapel of Remembrance from 3 P.M. to 9 P.M. with a Rosary at 7 P.M. Funeral mass will be held on Monday, July 1, 2019 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in McAllen, Texas at 10:30 A.M.

A Memorial Service in honor of Pete R. Castillo will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at the Eagle Pass Golf Club in Eagle Pass, Texas at a time to be determined to allow his Eagle Pass friends, students and colleagues to pray for and remember him.
