Eagle Pass South Station Deploys Soft-sided Temporary Holding Facility
EAGLE PASS, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol constructed several compact all-weather mobile shelter systems, CAMSS, to help ease the capacity issues at the Eagle Pass South Station.
“All of the stations in Del Rio Sector are experiencing significant capacity issues, but none more so than Eagle Pass South Station,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Raul L. Ortiz. “The addition of these structures will assist with managing the crowding in the station until a more permanent solution is found.”
On June 4, construction of several CAMSS at the Eagle Pass South Station was completed. These structures will be utilized as temporary holding areas for family units awaiting processing. These CAMSS will be staffed by Border Patrol agents for security, have environmental systems to maintain adequate temperatures, and are equipped with power and water needed to maintain detainee safety and hygiene.
Since October 2018, the Del Rio Sector has arrested over 34,000 people, almost 18,000 of which have been family units. This is more than a 200 percent increase in total arrests, and a 1000 percent increase in family unit arrests compared to the same time last year.
The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the Joint Task Force-West South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations. To report suspicious activity call the Del Rio Sector’s toll free number at 1-866-511-8727.
