Eagle Pass Lady Eagles Clinch 2019 District Softball Championship with Shut Out (7-0) over Laredo Alexander

The mighty Eagle Pass High School Lady Eagles clinched the 2019 District 29-6A Softball Championship with an impressive shut out (7-0) win over nemesis Laredo Alexander Lady Bulldogs on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at the Eagle Pass Independent School District Student Activity Center Softball Field.
Lady Eagles senior pitcher Kaitlin Galvan hurled five innings to earn the victory and reserve pitcher Alyssa Galvan hurled two innings in relief to clinch the 2019 District 29-6A Softball Championship with one District game remaining against the Del Rio Queens on April 18, 2019.
The Lady Eagles scored one run in the bottom of the second inning as Lorelei Morales belted a double to right field and stole third base and crossed home plate on an RBI fielders choice by Lashay Reyes to give the Lady Eagles an early 1-0 lead.
The Lady Eagles exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as Lorelei Morales led off with a single, with one out Lashay Reyes received a base on balls, followed by an RBI single by Alyssa Lara scoring Morales, Reyes scored on a Lady Bulldog error with Cristabel Martinez reaching first base, pitcher Kaitlin Galvan slammed an RBI single scoring Martinez, and Leslie Martinez belted a two run inside the park home run to extend the Lady Eagles lead to 6-0 over the Lady Bulldogs.
The Lady Eagles added one run in the bottom of the sixth inning as catcher Brooke Diaz blasted a single and stole second and third base and pinch hitter Joelyn Gonzalez belted an RBI single to score Diaz while increasing the Lady Eagles lead 7-0 over the Lady Bulldogs.
With the win, the Lady Eagles improve to 11-0 in District 29-6A with one remaining game against arch-rival Del Rio Queens on Thursday, April 18th, at Del Rio, Texas.
The Lady Eagles will commence post-season play next week with a team from the Rio Grande Valley to be determined.
The Lady Eagles are under the direction of Head Coach Oscar Ruiz.
