Eagle Pass Lady Eagle Leslie Martinez Signs Letter of Intent to Play College Softball at UTPB

Eagle Pass High School Lady Eagles Softball senior Leslie Martinez signed a National Letter of Intent to play college softball for the University of Texas-Permian Basin (UTPB) Lady Falcons on Monday, April 1, 2019, at the Eagle Pass High School Lecture Hall, announced Eagle Pass High School Lady Eagles Head Softball Coach Oscar Ruiz.
“Leslie Martinez is a four year letterman with the Eagle Pass High School Lady Eagles Softball Team and earned First Team District 29-6A honors as the starting Center Fielder and Leadoff Hitter for the Lady Eagles,” Oscar Ruiz said. “Leslie is the catalyst of the Lady Eagles offense as the leadoff hitter and the defensive field general as the starting center fielder for the Lady Eagles,” added Ruiz.
“We are extremely proud of Leslie’s dedication and leadership during the past four years with the Lady Eagles. She is a role model who helps her teammates attain their maximum potential on the field while she gives her personal best on every play of the game and season,” said Ruiz. “Leslie’s unselfish dedication and hard work on and off the softball diamond is truly exemplary and this four year scholarship to continue her academic and athletic pursuits at the prestigious University of Texas-Permian Basin Lady Falcons Softball Program is a testament of her athleticism, leadership, and intelligence,” added Ruiz.
Accompanying Leslie Martinez at her National Letter of Intent Signing Ceremony on April 1, 2019 were her Lady Eagles teammates, Winn Lady Mavericks Adriana Soto and Briana Soto, her parents, Irma and Lelis Martinez, brother Mark A. Martinez, maternal grandparents, Joe and Juanita Lopez, paternal grandparents, Lelis and San Juana Perez, Lady Eagles Head Coach Oscar Ruiz, Eagle Pass Independent School District Athletics Director Edward Graf, Eagle Pass High School Athletics Director Tom Gonzalez, Eagle Pass High School Principal John Cox, family, friends, and classmates.
Martinez has also earned All-Academic District 29-6A Team honors during her four years with the Lady Eagles as well as Second Team All-District honors earlier in her career. She is also a certified EKG Technician.
Martinez is the third Lady Eagles senior team member to sign a National Letter of Intent to play collegiate softball during the year, joining catcher Brooke Diaz who signed with Louisiana Tech University Lady Techsters and Alexandra Martinez who signed with Howard Payne University Yellow Jackets.
