Eagle Pass Holds Legislative Days
(Press Release) The City of Eagle Pass held its 2019 Legislative Days on March 6 & 7, in Austin as part of its participation in the 86th Texas Legislative Session.
Mayor Ramsey English-Cantu, Mayor Pro-tem Yolanda Ramon, Councilmen: Rudy Villalpando, Luis Sifuentes, Billy Davis, and City Manager George Antuna, led the 43-member delegation to the State Capitol. The city’s delegation included a cross-section of the community with representatives from: City of Eagle Pass, Eagle Pass BEDC, Middle Rio Grande Development Council, Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce, Eagle Pass Water Works System, EPISD, SWTJC, Sul Ross University, Maverick Council Hospital District, Ft. Duncan Regional Medical Center, Union Pacific, AT&T, IBC Bank, and Falcon Bank.
The delegation participated in over 60 legislative meetings, which included: Speaker of the House Dennis Bonnen, TXDOT Executive Director James Bass, DPS Director Steven McCraw, Governor’s Chief of Staff Luis Saenz, Governor’s Transportation Policy Advisor Allegra Hill, and Governor’s Office of Economic Development Deputy Director Mary York.
IBC Bank – Eagle Pass, President & CEO Hector Cerna, who also serves as the BEDC Business & Industry Chair, hosted over 120 guests at a legislative reception at IBC’s Downtown Austin headquarters Community Suite. The reception included a bi-partisan representation of the state legislature.
The city, through its Government Relations Consulting Firm, EMC Strategy Group, began preparations for its 2019 visit last summer. All legislative meetings were scheduled by the EMC team and coordinated with the Offices of Representative Poncho Nevarez and Senator Peter Flores.
Mayor Ramsey English-Cantu and the City Council thanked all the volunteers and city staff for serving as the city’s delegates and stressed the city’s commitment in working through collaborative efforts to push forward the Eagle Pass’ legislative priorities.
The City of Eagle Pass will continue its participation in the legislative session through May 27, 2019.
