Eagle Passan Ellen Louise Monte Ramon passes away at age 75
Ellen Louise Monte Ramon, 75, of Eagle Pass, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at TexSan Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. Ellen was the youngest child and only daughter of the late Jose Maria Monte and Ruth Agnes Brigham Monte of Barre, Vermont.
Born in Vermont on May 6, 1943, Ellen graduated from Spaulding High School and later earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science from Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas. Ellen married her college roommate’s cousin, Alberto Manuel Ramon. While Alberto attended law school at the University of Texas, Ellen worked at the UT Law Library. Thereafter she worked as a librarian at the Eagle Pass Public Library and then the Eagle Pass High School. After a brief retirement, Ellen resumed work as a librarian in Universal City, Texas; Oxford, California; and San Antonio, Texas. She retired again in 2017.
Ellen was a devoted mother and friend, known for her quick wit and relaxed manner. In her younger days, Ellen enjoyed attending concerts with her son Joey, shopping, and reading. In retirement, Ellen spent much of her free time traveling with her lifelong best friend, Mary Ibarra. Ellen and Mary regularly traveled to Hawaii, taking over a dozen trips. They were also known to frequent Las Vegas, most recently in November of 2018.
Ellen is preceded in death by her parents Jose and Ruth, her brothers John P. Monte, Daniel T. Monte and David A. Monte; and her beloved son, Jose Alberto (“Joey”) Ramon. Ellen is survived by her daughters Margarita Louise Ramon and Soledad Maria Valenciano; her grandchildren Caren Alyssa, Laughton Andrew, Clarissa Angelica and Carlos Gerardo (“CJ”); her son-in-law Carlos Gerardo Valenciano, Sr.; her former spouse, Alberto; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and Friends may gather at a memorial service to honor Ellen’s life at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2019 in Chapel of Remembrance at Riojas Funeral Home where the Rosary will be recited at 12:00 p.m., followed by Mass at 2:00 p.m. in Our Lady of Refuge Church, and a reception immediately thereafter at the home of Alberto and Marie Ramon.
