CBP Officers Intercept Over 1 Million in Narcotics in at the Eagle Pass, Texas Port of Entry
EAGLE PASS, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers kept sharp focus on border security efforts, seizing a total of $1,061,122 in methamphetamine, marijuana in back-to-back enforcement actions at Eagle Pass Port of Entry.
“Our frontline CBP officers steadfastly carried out CBP’s border security mission and intercepted three significant loads of narcotics one at the passenger environment and two in the cargo environment,” said Port Director Paul Del Rincon, Eagle Pass Port of Entry. “These seizures underscore the seriousness of the drug threat our officers face daily and our firm resolve to keep our border communities secure.”
The most recent seizure occurred on Thursday, Feb. 21 at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry import lot when CBP officers utilizing canines and a non-intrusive imaging system discovered 50 bricks containing a total of 1,267.6 pounds of alleged marijuana within an international tractor hauling a shipment of bentonite clay. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $253,529.00.
On Saturday, February 16 at the Eagle Pass International Bridge I CBP officers discovered 28.66 pounds of alleged methamphetamine after a CBP officer referred and inspected a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 39-year-old male Mexican citizen for a secondary examination. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $573,196.
The last and most notable narcotics interception occurred on Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry import lot when a CBP officer referred a 2007 Freightliner tractor hauling a trailer with a shipment of Saltillo floor tile for a secondary examination. Following a canine and non-intrusive imaging system inspection, CBP officers discovered 120 large bundles that contained 1,172 pounds of alleged marijuana. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $234,397.00.
CBP officers seized all the narcotics and the first two seizures were turned over to Maverick County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation. The Feb. 21 seizure remains under investigation by Homeland Security Investigations special agents.
