Eagle Pass Police Department Arrests Man Involved in Crowdfunding Scam

Thursday, January 24, 2019, 3:30 PM: 31-year-old Logan Ray Blanchard was arrested on a warrant obtained by the Eagle Pass Police Department as a result of an investigation commenced in December 2018.

The investigation revealed Blanchard started a fundraiser via a crowdfunding platform (i.e. GoFundMe, Kickstarter) in order to raise monies to assist in the complainants’ medical expenses. Blanchard allegedly retrieved the funds collected on the social media site in August 2018 and never provided them to the complainant for whom they were intended.

Blanchard was presented before a magistrate where he was formally charged with a State Jail Felony of theft over $2,500.00 but less than $30,000.00 and remanded to the Tom Bowles Detention Center in lieu of a $3,000.00 bond. This incident will be referred to the District Attorney’s Office.
