2019 Maverick County Jr. Livestock Show Helps Local Youth Learn Valuable Lessons

The 2019 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale hosts many activities and projects for the educational development and experience of its over 300 participating students, announced Tim Hardt, Board President of the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Association. Students learn many important valuable lessons in life.
The citizens of Maverick County, Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, and surrounding communities of Carrizo Springs, Crystal City, La Pryor, Uvalde, Brackettville, and Del Rio are invited to attend and participate in one or more of the activities and events during the week long 2019 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show from January 20-26, 2019, Hardt added.
The Muy Grande BBQ Cook-Off was held during January 11-12, 2019 at the City of Eagle Pass International Center for Trade, but final results were not available as of press time.
Next up on the schedule of activities is the highly anticipated Miss Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Pageant to be held on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 3 P.M. at the Zan Mathies Show Barn in the Maverick County Lake in Eagle Pass, Texas, announced Olga Ramos, Pageant Coordinator. A registration fee of $50 per contestant is required. A total of seven categories will be crowned, including Miss Maverick County Junior Livestock Show, Miss Teen Maverick County Junior Livestock Show, Junior Miss Maverick County Junior Livestock Show, Little Mr. and Miss Maverick County Junior Livestock Show, and Tiny Mr. and Miss Maverick County Junior Livestock Show. Next event is the traditional Jesus “Chuy” Sanchez Memorial Community Cowboy Breakfast on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 from 7 A.M. to 9 A.M. at the Zan Mathies Show Barn in the Maverick County Lake in Eagle Pass, Texas, sponsored by the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce and the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Association. On Tuesday, January 22, 2019, the move in of Lambs and Goats commences at the Zan Mathies Show Barn and all Photography and Art Show Entries are due between 5 P.M. to 10 P.M.
On Wednesday, January 23, 2019, activities start at 9 A.M. with the weighing and sifting of Market Lambs, followed with the weighing and sifting of Market Goats, followed by (10 A.M.) the weighing and sifting of Market Rabbits and Meat Pens and Market Poultry. At 1 P.M., the Judging of Out of County and Breeding Sheep and Goats gets underway, followed by the Judging of Market Rabbits and Meat Pens, and the selection of the Grand and Reserve Champion Rabbit and Meat Pen. At 4 P.M. is the Judging of Market Poultry and selection of the Grand and Reserve Champion Broiler and Broiler Pen. At 5:30 P.M., is the Judging of Young Exhibitor Projects. After 5 P.M. is the moving of all Steers and Hogs.
On Thursday, January 24, 2019, activities start early at 7 A.M. with the Food Show Entries due and the judging of Food, Art, and Photography until 12 Noon. At 9 A.M., the MCJLS Helping Hands Show featuring Hogs and Rabbits will be held, followed by the judging of the Market Lambs and Market Lamb Showmanship Contest, followed by the judging of Market Goats and Market Goat Showmanship Contest, followed by the weighing and sifting of Market Steers and Market Swine, followed by the judging of Out of County and Breeding Cattle and Swine, followed by the judging of Young Exhibitor Projects. At 6:30 P.M., the highlight is the selection of the Grand and Reserve Champion Goat as well as the the selection of the Grand and Reserve Champion Lamb.
On Friday, January 25, 2019, events start at 9 A.M. with the MCJLS Helping Hands Show featuring Lambs and Goats, followed at 10:30 A.M. with the judging of Market Swine and Market Swine Showmanship Contest, followed by the judging of Market Steers and Market Steer Showmanship Contest, followed by the selection of the Overall Senior Showmanship Champion and the Adult Showmanship Contest. At 5:30 P.M., the recognition of all the Food, Art and Photography Show Winners will be held, followed at 6 P.M. by the highlight of the show the selection of the Grand and Reserve Champion Hog as well as the selection of the Grand and Reserve Champion Steer.
On Saturday, January 26, 2019, festivities commence at 11 A.M. with a BBQ Plate Sale at a cost of $8 per plate, followed at 11 A.M. with the Dedication of the 2019 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show as well as recognition of the 2018 MCJLS Top Ten Buyers. At 11:30 A.M. sharp is the start of the 2019 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Sale until the last animal is sold.
Finally, at 8 P.M. on Saturday, January 26, 2019, the 2019 MCJLS closes with a traditional Texas Two-Step Western Dance from 8 P.M. Until the last cow comes home at the City of Eagle Pass International Center for Trade, 3295 Bob Rogers Drive, Eagle Pass, Texas. Tickets to the Western Dance are $20 Pre-Sale and $30 at the Door. Table reservations are available for $50, $75, and $100.
