The mighty Eagle Pass High School Lady Eagles will face the storied San Benito High School Lady Hounds in the University Interscholastic League (U.I.L.) Region IV, 6A Regional Quarter-Finals Championship in a best of three series scheduled to be played at St. Mary’s University Softball Stadium during Friday and Saturday, May 11-12, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas, announced Head Coach Oscar Ruiz.
Game 1 is on Friday, May 11th, at 5 P.M. at St. Mary’s University Softball Stadium. Game 2 is on Saturday, May 12th, at 2 P.M. also at St. Mary’s University Softball Stadium, and, Game 3, if necessary, is 30 minutes following Game 2.
The Lady Eagles are entering into the Regional Quarter-Finals Championship series with an overall season record of 20-11 and a third-place finish in District 29-6A plus a Bi-District Championship and an Area Championship.
The Lady Hounds are sporting an overall season record of 21-8 and have similarly won a Bi-District and Area Championships to earn a berth against the Lady Eagles in the Regional Quarter-Finals Championship.
The Eagle Pass Lady Eagles and San Benito Lady Hounds have met at least three times in the state playoffs: in 2007, 2008, and 2013. In 2007, the Lady Eagles upset the heralded Lady Hounds in a thrilling, classic three game series (2-1) in the Area Championship in the humidity of Corpus Christi Independent School District Cabaniss Softball Stadium with two of the games going into extra innings as former Lady Eagle standout pitcher Alexa C. Calderon and reserve pitcher/second baseman Marisol Lopez muzzled the potent Lady Hounds batters to earn the playoff series win. In 2008, the Lady Eagles fell to the San Benito Lady Hounds at San Antonio Southwest High School Softball Stadium. And in 2013, the Lady Eagles fell to the Lady Hounds in a controversial lightning delayed Game 1 by the score of 2-0 at the Laredo United Independent School District Student Activity Center Softball Stadium that precluded the teams from actually playing out the three game series and limiting them only to that one game per UIL rules. This year’s Regional Quarter-Finals Championship promises to be another highly competitive and classic state playoff series between the Lady Eagles and Lady Hounds.
All Eagle Pass Lady Eagles Softball aficionados in San Antonio, Austin, Central Texas, and Eagle Pass are encouraged to attend the Regional Quarter-Finals Championship Series and support the Lady Eagles to victory over the San Benito Lady Hounds. Go Lady Eagles Win!
