Maverick County Water Control & Improvement District No. 1 Board Approves to Name District Offices as “The Abdalla Moses Complex”

The Maverick County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 (MCWCID No. 1) Board of Directors approved to name the District Offices located at 1622 Maverick Industrial Park Road in the Radar Base in Eagle Pass, Texas as the “The Abdalla Moses Complex” at their regular meeting held on February 13, 2018.
Maverick County pioneer farmer and teacher Abdalla Henry Moses dedicated his entire life to farming in Quemado Valley in Maverick County, serving in the United States Military during World War II, volunteering as a Board of Director of the Maverick County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 for many years, raising an extraordinary family together with his lovely wife, Amelia, teaching at the Eagle Pass Independent School District, and volunteering in community organizations and activities. Abdalla Henry Moses passed away on January 22, 2017 at the age of 88 years.
Maverick County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 Board of Director Juan Manuel Garcia, Jr. made the motion to name the District Offices in honor of past Board President and member, Abdalla Henry Moses, and Board member Beyer Junfin seconded the motion. Garcia presented the long trajectory of unselfish service and dedication of Abadalla Henry Moses as a past Board of Director and Board President at the Maverick County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 and within the Maverick County community. After a brief discussion, the MCWCID No. 1 Board of Directors approved the motion to officially name the District Offices as “The Abdalla Moses Complex” effective immediately with a future public dedication ceremony to be held.
Abdalla Henry Moses served on the MCWCID No. 1 Board of Directors during 1968-1972 and 1998-2012. Moses served as Board President during 1971-1972 and 2004-2010 (President & Vice-President). During his tenure as Board President, Moses led the MCWCID No. 1 to purchase the Eagle Pass Hydro Electric Water Plant in 2005. He was an ardent advocate for protecting farmers and ranchers water rights, assisted in the passage of State legislation in 1981 of the Return Flow Credit Bill, the purchase of the District Offices located at 1622 Maverick Industrial Park Road in 2000, and led the MCWCID No. 1 to receive Renewable Energy Credits from the State of Texas in 2007.
