The Maverick County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 Board of Directors unanimously appointed Quemado farmer and businessman Juan Perez, Jr. to fill a vacant Board position at an Emergency Board Meeting held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018.
Former Board Member and Secretary Yolanda L. Mauricio resigned due to her selling her real property within the District to a third-party and not owning any other property within the District, becoming ineligible to continue serving on the Board. Mauricio thanked District members and fellow Board members for their trust and support of her during her tenure on the Board of Directors, electing her to serve as Board Secretary.
Board member Beyer Junfin made the motion to appoint Juan Perez, Jr., stating that Perez had run for the District Board at the last election and had been runner-up in the total of votes received and was a successful farmer and businessman in Quemado, Texas. Board Vice-President Gabriel Garcia seconded the motion. After discussion, District Board President Javier Mancha called the motion for a vote, and the Board unanimously approved the appointment of Juan Perez, Jr. as a new Board member to replace former Board member Yolanda Mauricio.
Perez was administered the Oath of Office and sworn-in as a new Board member by District General Manager Cynthia Martinez and seated on the Board. Perez thanked the District Board members for allowing him the opportunity to serve Maverick County farmers and ranchers in the local water control and improvement district.
Following Perez’s appointment, the District Board proceeded to unanimously elect Board member Juan Manuel Garcia, Jr. as the new Board Secretary.
