Maverick County Commissioners Court unanimously appointed Eagle Pass, Texas attorney Jaime (AJ) Iracheta as the new Maverick County Attorney to replace former County Attorney Ricardo Ramos, who resigned to run for the 293rd Judicial District Court Judgeship in the March 6th Democratic Party Primary Election, at their January 8, 2018, regular meeting.
Iracheta and Eagle Pass attorney Edgar Juarez expressed interest to Commissioners Court in December of 2017 in being considered for the vacant Maverick County Attorney position.
Maverick County Commissioners Court went into Executive Session to discuss and interview both candidates for the County Attorney position. Upon returning into Open Session, County Judge David R. Saucedo asked if any Commissioner had a motion to make and Commissioner Roberto Ruiz made the motion to appoint Jaime (AJ) Iracheta as Maverick County Attorney and Commissioner Pete Venegas seconded the motion.
During discussion, Commissioner Ruiz commended both Iracheta and Juarez for their excellent qualifications and applying for the position. Ruiz added that he was honored to make the motion to appoint Iracheta as County Attorney. County Judge David R. Saucedo echoed Commissioner Ruiz regarding both candidates being well-qualified and participating in the selection process, stating the decision was difficult and congratulated both candidates. Commissioners Rosy Cantu and Pete Venegas joined County Judge David R. Saucedo and Commissioner Roberto Ruiz in voting to approve the motion to appoint Jaime (AJ) Iracheta as Maverick County Attorney unanimously with Commissioner Jerry Morales absent.
The newly appointed Maverick County Attorney Jaime (AJ) Iracheta was joined by his wife, children, parents, siblings, grandmother, relatives, and friends after the meeting to congratulate him on his new appointment.
