Eagle Pass 17 Year Old Female Pedestrian Struck by Automobile on Garrison Street

An Eagle Pass, Texas 17 year old female pedestrian, Vanessa Velasquez, was struck by an automobile while attempting to cross Garrison Street between Burger King Restaurant and McDonald’s Restaurant at approximately 10:30 P.M. on Friday, January 5, 2018.
The 17 year old female teen sustained serious injuries to her body and was transported to Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center by Eagle Pass Fire Department EMS Ambulance and later transferred to a San Antonio, Texas trauma medical center for treatment. Due to the severity of her injuries, Velasquez is currently in a coma and critical condition at the San Antonio medical facility.
The Eagle Pass Police Department is investigating the accident on Garrison Street, which is designated part of a state or federal highway. The 17 year old female teenager allegedly worked at Burger King and had finished working there when the accident happened.
The preliminary investigation reports that the teenager was first struck by an automobile driven by Ana de la Garza, an employee of the City of Eagle Pass who serves as General Manager of the Eagle Pass International Bridge System, and subsequently struck by two additional automobiles after De la Garza. De la Garza stopped at the scene of the accident and called 911 to report the accident, but the other two automobile drivers that struck the teenager fled the scene of the accident.
The Eagle Pass Police Department is seeking eyewitnesses and videos from nearby businesses to attempt to identify the other two automobiles involved in the accident and how the accident occurred.
