The Maverick County Coalition Against Domestic Violence To Host “Peace With Purple Vigil” On October 5th

October 2017 is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, said Perla Vela, Case Manager at Quad Counties Council-New Horizons Outreach Program and a member of The Maverick County Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
The Maverick County Coalition Against Domestic Violence is a community non-profit organization dedicated to advocating against domestic violence and providing counseling services to victims of domestic violence in Eagle Pass and Maverick County, Texas.
In honor of October being designated as the National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, The Maverick County Coalition Against Domestic Violence is hosting a “Peace With Purple Vigil” on Thursday, October 5, 2017, at 6 P.M. at the Maverick County Lake Pavilion in Eagle Pass, Texas to remember the victims of domestic violence who lost their lives, the survivors of domestic violence, and to connect advocates against domestic violence in the community. The “Peace With Purple Vigil” is free and open to the public and to all persons interested in stopping domestic violence in the community. All persons attending the “Peace With Purple Vigil” on October 5th are encouraged to wear a purple shirt or blouse.
Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behaviors, including physical, sexual, psychological attacks as well as economic coercion, used by one intimate partner against another (adult or adolescent) to gain, maintain, or regain control and power in a relationship. Batterers use a range of tactics to terrorize, frighten, humiliate, manipulate, hurt, injure or kill a current or former intimate partner.
Domestic violence is widespread in Eagle Pass and Maverick County. Incidents of domestic violence have increased during recent years with the Eagle Pass Police Department and Maverick County Sheriff’s Department.
