Former Eagle Pass Winn Lady Mavericks Standout Softball Player MaryChelo Flores Named To Texas State University Bobcats Softball Team

Former Eagle Pass C. C. Winn High School standout Lady Mavericks softball player MaryChelo Flores was named to the 2017-2018 Texas State University Bobcats Softball Team as a freshman walk-on, a difficult feat and honor.
MaryChelo Flores participated in the Texas State University Bobcats Softball Team tryouts during late August through early September 2017 after enrolling as a freshman student. “I am extremely excited to have made the Texas State Bobcats Softball Team and look forward to working hard this year to improve and contribute to the team during the year,” said MaryChelo Flores.
Flores was a standout player on the Eagle Pass Winn Lady Mavericks during the past four years, earning All-District First Team as a pitcher during 2015-2016, All-District Second Team as a pitcher during 2016-2017, All-District Second Team as a first baseman during 2014-2015, and Academic All-District for four years during 2013-2017.
Flores also participated in the Eagle Pass Winn Mavericks Cheerleading Team for four years during. 2013-2017 while maintaining high academic standards, garnering honor roll status from first grade through twelfth grade and was an honors graduate and a National Honor Society member at C.C. Winn High School.
While at C. C. Winn High School, MaryChelo Flores was well-liked by her peers electing her as the 2017 Homecoming Queen, Prom Queen, and the Renaissance Queen. She also received the National Scholar Athlete Award and the Houston Astros Foundation Minute Maid Grand Slam Scholarship in 2017.
MaryChelo Flores is the daughter of Carmen Ponce of Eagle Pass, Texas.
The Texas State University Bobcats Softball Team is under the direction of Head Coach Ricci Woodard and Assistant Coaches Cat Osterman, Peejay Brun, and Megan Coronado.
Flores becomes the second Winn Lady Mavericks softball player to make an NCAA Division I softball program since the school introduced softball in 2006-2007.
“The C.C. Winn High School Athletics Department, Administration, and students are very proud of MaryChelo Flores’ accomplishment and wish her the best with the Texas State Bobcats Softball Team,” said Winn High School Athletic Director Eric Villaseñor.
“We are excited to learn of MaryChelo Flores’ making the Texas State Bobcats Softball Team as a freshman walk-on and wish her the best of luck during her collegiate softball career,” said J.J. Iracheta, Winn Lady Mavericks Head Softball Coach.
