Eagle Pass Eagles Clash With Eagle Pass Winn Mavericks in 12th Annual City Football Rivalry

The mighty Eagle Pass High School Eagles will clash with their cross-town rival, the thundering Eagle Pass C. C. Winn High School Mavericks, in the 12th Annual City Football Rivalry on Friday, September 15, 2017, at 7:30 P.M. at the Eagle Pass Independent School District Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium in Eagle Pass, Texas. A sold-out, jam packed Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium crowd is anticipated for the most exciting, entertaining, and thrilling football game of the year in Eagle Pass.
The home team will be the Eagle Pass Eagles under the leadership of Head Coach Tom Gonzalez, possessing a 1-1 overall season record coming into the 12th Anniversary of the mythical City Football Championship, also affectionately called “The Menudo Bowl.” The visiting team will be the thundering Eagle Pass Winn Mavericks under the tutelage of Head Coach Eric Villasenor with an overall season record of 1-1 entering this key game.
The Eagle Pass Eagles play in District 29-6A while the Eagle Pass Winn Mavericks compete in District 29-5A, making the game a non-district game for both teams.
Both the Eagles and Mavericks will enter this highly competitive 12th Annual City Football Rivalry, there is nothing friendly about it, well-prepared and trained to win the bragging rights for football supremacy in Eagle Pass for the 2017-2018 school year. Both teams will compete with exemplary sportsmanship.
Although the Eagle Pass Eagles hold an 11-0 series advantage, all the past records go out the window as both the Eagles and Mavericks covet the honor and privilege to win the 12th Annual City Football Rivalry at the end of the game. One thing is certain-both teams will play to their maximum potential and provide a thrilling football game to be remembered for ages.
Leading the mighty Eagle Pass Eagles on offense is quarterback Ricardo “Richie” Luna, running back Dee Andre Torres, wide receivers Albert Guevara, Norby Zavala, Jose Riojas, David Lopez, and Ralph Guerrero, and the offensive linemen include center Jose Laguna, guards Jorge Guajardo and Ray Galindo, tackles Tito Villarreal and Alex Martinez, and place kicker Jose Riojas.
On defense, the Eagles wrecking crew are anchored by linebackers David Kypuros, Haran Rodriguez, Roger Ulloa, and Mando Monicvais, defensive linemen Sebastian Hernandez, David Santos, Jr., Mario Torres, and Moises Rocha, and the defensive backs include Darwin Lechler, Nico Moyeda, Kristian Barcena, and Raul Lechler.
The Eagle Pass Eagles lost their season opener to the Medina Valley Panthers by a close score of 28-27 and won last week against Laredo Cigarroa Toros 35-7. The Eagles will seek to remain undefeated in the key City Football Rivalry.
The thundering Eagle Pass Winn Mavericks explosive offensive machine is led by quarterbacks Ethan Johnsotn and Tony Flores, running backs Gustavo Cabrera, Omar Ramos, Fernando Zapata, and Luis Rodriguez, wide receivers Isaac Villarreal, Justis Roiz, Jose Blanco, Raul Solis, and Luis Olvera, and the offensive linemen include Sebastian Lopez, Erik Del Bosque, Juan Hernandez, Ty Ramirez, Jaime Rodriguez, place kickers Erik Tarin and Ernesto Fuentes, and punter Ernesto Villasenor.
The stampeding Mavericks defense is led by linebackers Ernesto Villasenor, Miguel De Los Santos, and Cesar De La Garza, defensive linemen Alexis Morales, Alejandro Ontiveros, Isaias Gonzalez, Ricardo Morales, and Ismael Villarreal, and the defensive backs include Brandon Wheeler, J.J. Garcia, German Velasquez, Domingo Duran, Issaac Flores, and Xavier Cerezo.
The Mavericks dropped their season opener to the Crystal City Javelinas 20-13 and defeated the Laredo LBJ Wolves 19-11 last week. The Mavericks will seek to win their first game of the series on Friday, September 15th.
