Eagle Pass Lady Eagle Heather Ruiz Named 2017 District 29-6A Softball Co-Most Valuable Player, 11 Lady Eagles Received All-District Honors

Eagle Pass High School Lady Eagles Head Softball Coach Oscar Ruiz has authorized the Eagle Pass Business Journal to announce the 2017 District 29-6A Softball All-District Team Selections made by the District Head Coaches after the end of the regular season, including standout junior Lady Eagle shortstop Heather Ruiz being named the 2017 District 29-6A Softball Co-Most Valuable Player for her extraordinary offensive and defensive play during District play together with standout senior San Antonio South San pitcher Alyssa Montes.
Lady Eagle Heather Ruiz had an impressive 2017 season, batting .562 average, 82 plate appearances but due to opposing teams giving her base on balls had 64 at bats, 36 base hits, 6 home runs, 12 doubles, 2 triples, 16 singles, 30 RBIs, scored 30 runs, and an overall on-base-percentage of .659. Ruiz also had a fielding percentage of .848 while playing shortstop in 24 games.
Lady Eagle Heather Ruiz was the catalyst to the Lady Eagles offensive firepower throughout the entire season such that opponents feared her big bat preferring to walk her and only pitch to her if they had no other choice as well as the defensive captain of the Lady Eagles infield while playing a wide ranging shortstop position.
Two Lady Eagles were named to the 2017 District 29-6A First Team All-District, including standout sophomore pitcher Kaitlyn Galvan and standout junior outfielder and utility player Alexandra Martinez.
Three Lady Eagles received 2017 District 29-6A Second Team All-District honors, including standout junior second baseman Karina Ruiz, standout sophomore first baseman Lorelei Morales, and standout sophomore outfielder Leslie Martinez.
Five Lady Eagles were named to the 2017 District 29-6A Honorable Mention Team, including sophomore pitcher Leenette Krezdorn, senior outfielder Isabella Ruiz, junior catcher Kayla Ochoa, junior outfielder Elena De Alba, and sophomore Lee Ann Dunn.
The 2017 District 29-6A Softball Newcomer of the Year went to Aaliya Ortiz of San Antonio Southwest Lady Dragons.
The 2017 District 29-6A Softball Coach of the Year went to District Champion San Antonio South San Lady Bobcats Head Coach Ray Castillo.
