Two People Killed in Auto Accident on U.S. Highway 57 in Zavala County

A three vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 57 in Zavala County, Texas at approximately 3:30 P.M. on Sunday, March 12, 2017 claimed the lives of two people and left several other people injured, announced the Zavala County Sheriff’s Department.

According to the preliminary investigation, two automobiles collided head-on while the third automobile was unable to avoid the accident and collided with one of the two vehicles involved in the head-on collision.

Several persons were injured and transported to San Antonio, Texas medical facilities for treatment by helicopter.  

The names of the two deceased persons are Carlos De Luna, age 19, of Nueva Rosita, Coahuila, Mexico who was a student at a college in San Antonio, Texas and Ivan De Jesus Guerrero, age 35, of Dallas, Texas.  Their families have been notified of their demise in this fatal accident.

The accident caused U.S. Highway 57 in Zavala County to be closed for several hours while Emergency Medical Services attended to the injured and law enforcement authorities investigated the fatal accident.

The Zavala County Sheriff’s Department and Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating the tragic automobile accident.
