Uresti Brothers Take Oath of Office
(Press Release) Senator Carlos Uresti and newly elected State Representative Tomas Uresti took their respective oaths of office Tuesday, January 10th, at the Texas State Capitol. The 140-day legislative session runs through May 29th. The brothers are the first siblings in Texas to serve concurrently representing House and Senate districts since 1940.
“This is an exciting day for our family and for our supporters. Our parents instilled in us the importance of serving our community, and the opportunity to do so together at the Capitol is an honor for our family. Now that we’re sworn in, I think I can speak for both of us and say that it’s time to get to work.” said Senator Carlos Uresti
Tomas Uresti, elected in November to represent District 118 in the Texas House is a longtime public servant, having served on the Harlandale School Board for 10 years. He is also a longtime small business owner in the district, and a mentor and coach for children.
“The Southside of San Antonio is changing rapidly, and more than ever there is a need for leadership that is steady, transparent, and ready to fight for the needs of our students and teachers. Our kids deserve to graduate college or career ready, and our current inequitable system is an impediment, and needs to change.” said State Representative Tomas Uresti
“We may not see eye to eye on every single issue, but we both agree, serving our districts comes first. We hope to hear from our constituents as session progresses, whether they have an opinion on a bill or issue, or need help with a matter before a state agency. We’re here to serve.” said Senator Uresti
Sen. Uresti represents Senate District 19, which covers more than 35,000 square miles and contains all or part of 17 counties, two international ports of entry, eleven state parks, 51 school districts, 2700 miles of highways, and more than 23,000 producing oil and gas wells in both the Eagle Ford Shale and Permian Basin. The district is larger than 12 states and 82 Nations, and contains over one third of the Texas-Mexico border. Sen. Uresti is proud to serve on the Finance, Natural Resources & Economic Development, Health & Human Services, and Administration Committees.
Rep. Tomas Uresti represents the 171,000 men, women, and children, who live, work, or attend school in House District 118. Anchored on the Southside of San Antonio, HD 118 contains all or part of 11 cities, 12 school districts, and missions San Juan Capistrano, and San Francisco De La Espada.
