Maverick County Pioneer Farmer & Community Leader Abdalla Henry Moses passes away
Maverick County pioneer farmer and community leader Abdalla Henry Moses passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2017, at the age of 88 in Eagle Pass, Texas.
Maverick Countians mourn the passing of legendary Maverick County farmer and community leader, Abdalla Henry Moses.
Moses and his family have farmed and ranched in Quemado Valley in Maverick County for many years.
Moses was a United States Veteran of World War II, serving with the Occupation Forces in Japan.
Moses served on the Board of Directors of the Maverick County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 during 1968-1972 and 1998-2012. Moses served as President of the Maverick County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 during 1971-1972 and during 2004-2010 as President and/or Vice-President.
Moses led the Maverick County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 in purchasing the Eagle Pass Hydroelectric Power Plant in 2005 for $3.9 Million while serving as Board President. He was an ardent advocate of protecting farmers and ranchers water rights, assisting in the passage of legislation by the Texas Legislature in 1981 of the Return Flow Credit Bill, the Water Rights Adjudication Bill in 1983, and the MCWCID No. 1 Voter District Bill in 2001. In addition, Moses supported the purchase of the old Alta Verde Meat Packing Facility at the Maverick County Industrial Park located at the Radar Base in 2000 as the new headquarters of the MCWCID No. 1 while selling its old office in Eagle Pass, currently the Consulado de Mexico Building.
In 2007, Moses led the MCWCID No. 1 to apply for and receive Renewable Energy Credits from the State of Texas for the local farmers and ranchers and their water irrigation district.
In addition to his lifetime commitment and service to the MCWCID No. 1, Moses also served in many other community boards and organizations in Maverick County, including youth activities.
Abdalla Henry Moses is survived by his beloved wife, Amelia Moses, and children, Deania Moses, Lilia Moses, Henry Moses, U.S. District Judge Alia Moses, Diana Moses Gomez, and Marina Moses Munoz.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Yeager-Barrera Mortuary of Eagle Pass, Texas with viewing on Wednesday, January 25th, from 2 P.M.- 9 P.M.and a Rosary at 7:30 P.M. followed with mass at Our Lady of Refuge Church on Thursday, January 26th, at 11 A.M. with interment at Quemado Valley Cemetery.
