Jesus “Chuy” Sanchez Memorial Cowboy Breakfast Kicks-Off 2017 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show & Sale

A record breaking attendance of over 800 persons celebrated the accomplishments with local 4-H and FFA youth of the late Jesus “Chuy” Sanchez and the kick-off of the 2017 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at the Zan Mathies Showbarn in the Maverick County Lake in Eagle Pass, Texas.
Maverick County Junior Livestock Show President Tim Hardt stated this year’s Jesus “Chuy” Sanchez Memorial Cowboy Breakfast was a great success and broke the all-time attendance record with over 800 persons participating.
The Jesus “Chuy” Sanchez Memorial Breakfast is co-sponsored by the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce. Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sandra Martinez stated the purpose of the Cowboy Breakfast is to raise funds for local 4-H and FFA students and celebrate the contributions made by the late Jesus “Chuy” Sanchez to local youth and the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale. Sanchez served for several years as President of the Board of Directors of the MCJLS and tirelessly worked to promote the MCJLS for the benefit of the youth and community.
Entertainment was provided by the Eagle Pass High School Aguilas de Oro Mariachi Band under the direction of David M. Solis.
Keynote speaker was Salvador Salinas, State Conservationist for the United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service of Temple, Texas. Accompanying Salinas from the USDA included Joanne DEA, Ombudsperson of Washington, D.C.., Beverly Moseley, State Public Affairs Director of Temple, Texas, Donnie Lunsford, Public Affairs Specialist of San Angelo, Texas, Serafin M. Aguirre, District Conservationist of Eagle Pass, Texas, and Javier Mancha, President of the Maverick County Soil and Conservation District of Age Pass, Texas.
Also participating as volunteers were members of the C. C. Winn High School Silverline Dance Team and Cheerleaders, members of both the C.C. Winn High School and Eagle Pass High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) students, and many local supporters of the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale who cooked the delicious Cowboy Breakfast and refreshments served to the overflowing crowd.
The 2017 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale will continue through January 24-28th at the Zan Mathies Showbarn at the Maverick County Lake. Admission to the MCJLS events are free, except the Bar-B-Que Plate Sale and Western Dance on January 28th. Come on out and support the local youth of Maverick County.
