Border Patrol Helps Save Tractor-Trailer Accident Victim in Eagle Pass

EAGLE PASS, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents working near Eagle Pass partnered with local authorities in order to rescue the driver of an over-turned tractor-trailer.

“I am very proud of the hard work and dedication that all our employees exhibited during this event,” said Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak.  “We take pride in working with local partners and our agents will remain prepared, trained, and ready to serve our community.”

On Jan. 17, at approximately 12 p.m., Eagle Pass Border Patrol agents working on Highway 277 near Normandy encountered an 18-wheeler that had crashed and slid into a creek.  Agents proceeded down the embankment and found an injured driver within the cab of the truck.  Nearby Border Patrol Search Trauma and Rescue agents, who are Emergency Medical Technicians, arrived at the scene and stabilized the man.

Local authorities from the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Public Safety, and Eagle Pass Fire Department soon arrived.  Steady rain had caused the water level in the creek to rise and made access to the driver difficult.  Despite these hazards, all rescuers worked together to extricate the immobilized patient from the vehicle.  He was then taken by ambulance to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
