Eagle Pass Eagles trounced by Laredo Alexander Bulldogs 42-16 in District Opener, face Laredo LBJ Wolves next

The mighty Eagle Pass High School Eagles were trounced by the host Laredo Alexander High School Bulldogs 42-16 in both teams District 29-6A Opener on Thursday, September 15, 2016, at the Laredo United Independent School District Student Activity Complex Football Stadium in Laredo, Texas.
The Eagles usual potent offense could only muster 16 hard earned points on the stingy Bulldogs defense while turning over the football on offfense several times which resulted in quick Bulldog touchdowns. Several Eagle starters sustained injuries during the game and had to be pulled out.
The Bulldogs scored first in the game on a 25 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Matthew Conor to wide receiver Leo Garza and the point after attempt was good to give the Bulldogs an early 7-0 lead over the Eagles.
The Bulldogs defense stifled the Eagles ground game led by standout running back Mark Venegas and quarterback Ricky Medina.
The Bulldogs quickly scored another touchdown on a dazzling 68 yards run by running back Dante Swain and the two point after attempt was blocked by standout Eagles defensive back Alan Morales while Eagle linebacker David Kypuros scooped up the blocked football and returned it for two points, narrowing the score 13-2 in favor of the Bulldogs.
The Eagles struck back with a sensational 48 yard touchdown pass from standout quarterback Ricky Medina to wide receiver Isaac Perales and the Eagles converted a two point attempt on a pass from Medina to wide receiver Ricky Reyes, closing the score 13-10 in favor of the Bulldogs. This would be the closest the Eagles got to the Bulldogs in the game.
The Bulldogs answered right back with a touchdown on an eight yard run scamper by quarterback Matthew Conor into the Eagles end zone and successfuly executed a two point attempt to take a 21-10 lead over the Eagles.
The Eagles final touchdown was earned on a 12 yard run by running back Mark Venegas near halftime and the two point after attmept failed, making the score 21-16 at halftime in favor of the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs defense muzzled the Eagles potent offense during the second half while their offense capitalized on Eagles turnovers and added three additional scores in the second half of play to close out the game 42-16, earning a hard fought District 29-6A victory over the Eagles. The Bulldogs improved to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in District 29-6A standings.
The Eagles fall to 2-2 overall in the 2016 Football Season and start 0-1 in District 29-6A standings.
The Eagles will now focus on defeating the Laredo LBJ High School Wolves under the helm of former Eagles head coach, Oscar “Oki” Villasenor, in another key Distict 29-6A game on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at 7 P.M. at the Eagle Pass Independent School District Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium, designated as Parents Night.
