Sissy Winn Crowned 2015 Miss Rodeo Texas Teen
(Press Release) In a highly exciting pageant competition, Sissy Winn, 17 years old of Chapman Ranch, TX, was crowned with the prestigious title of the new 2015 Miss Rodeo Texas Teen in San Antonio, TX on July 2, 2015. Miss Winn, the former Miss Rodeo Texas Princess – 2011, entered the pageant as Miss Rodeo Chapman Ranch. She explained of her newest title, “I was so excited and thrilled they chose me as the 2015 Miss Rodeo Texas Teen. It was a very competitive competition. I couldn’t stop smiling. I am looking forward to attending rodeos and represent the Miss Rodeo Texas Pageant and the title of Miss Rodeo Texas Teen. I am honored to be the first girl to win both the Miss Rodeo Texas Princess title and now Miss Rodeo Texas Teen. It was icing on the cake to win both titles. I am honored and looking forward to a phenomenal year.”
Miss Winn, a Senior at Winn Academy Homeschool, is also attending Del Mar College in Corpus Christi where she is on the President’s List. Sissy is a member of Yorktown Baptist Church Youth Group in Corpus Christi, London 4-H and the Nueces County Junior Livestock Show in Robstown, TX. Sissy emphasized, “I plan to be an ambassador and a role model for the sport of rodeo, and to inspire young girls to go after their dreams.”
Sissy competes in rodeo barrel racing, breakaway roping, goat tying, cutting, and pole bending. Her rodeo achievements include three-time National Junior High Rodeo Championship, 2010 to 2012, the 2013 Texas High School Rodeo Association All Around Cowgirl & Rookie Champion, three-time Texas Junior High Champion and three-time 2013- 2015 qualifier in the National High School Rodeo Association. She is also a member of numerous rodeo associations THSRA, TYRA, YRA, CTYRA, AQHA and NCHA. Miss Winn stated, “I love being a competitor in the sport that I cherish the most”.
Miss Winn volunteers at her church, 4-H community service projects, Corpus Christi Parks beautification program, deer breeding program, 4-H Quiz Bowl, mentoring and providing riding lessons to youth in her local area. Her other interests include photography, rifle shooting and skeet.
As the 43rd Miss Rodeo Texas Teen, Miss Winn received a $3500 scholarship, trophy saddle, trophy buckle, luggage, ring and other valuable prizes as the new MRTT 2015. In competing for this lofty recognition, Sissy also won photography, personality and horsemanship pageant categories. Sissy said, “I really want to thank all the sponsors and committee members who help make this organization so grand”.
A Texas tradition for more than five decades since the first Miss Rodeo Texas in 1959, the Miss Rodeo Texas Pageant has produced seven Miss Rodeo Americas. Since the inception of the Miss Rodeo Texas Pageant, Miss Rodeo Texas and Miss Rodeo Texas Teen have served as vibrant, colorful goodwill ambassadors of rodeo, the official sport of Texas, working closely with professional rodeos, rodeo associations and community organizations to keep our western heritage and keep the western industry alive and flourishing in today’s society. Contestants from all over the state participate in the Miss Rodeo Texas program competing for thousands of dollars in scholarship awards and other prizes among three age groups vying for their respective crowns. The Miss Rodeo Texas contest consists of pageant winners from 19 to 24 years old. The Miss Rodeo Texas Teen consists of winners from 14 to 18 year old. The Miss Rodeo Texas Princess competition consists of 9 to 13 year old contestants. The selection of each of the rodeo queens is based on horsemanship, appearance, and personality competitions with the crowning of the winners on coronation night in San Antonio, TX. Miss Rodeo Texas Teen 2015, Sissy Winn, will be representing Texas in numerous rodeos and community events throughout the great state of Texas and other states. Sissy is the granddaughter of the late Charles C. Winn and wife, Patsy Winn of Corpus Christi, Texas and Walter Herring and wife, Layde Herring of Eagle Pass, Texas.
