Dr. Isaac Samuel Vergara and Dr. Monique Nguyen join Southwest Texas Eye Care Associates

Dr. Carlos E. Rodriguez, founder and President of Southwest Texas Eye Care Associates, is pleased to announce that Dr. Isaac Samuel Vergara and Dr. Monique Nguyen joined Southwest Texas Eye Care Associates to provide full ophthalmology and optometry services to the residents of Maverick, Val Verde, Dimmit, and Zavala counties. Southwest Texas Eye Care Associates is the leading ophthalmology and optometry center in Eagle Pass, Texas as well as in the Middle Rio Grande region.
Dr. Vergara is a graduate of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, where he earned his Medical Doctor degree in 1998. He did an internship at The University of Texas Houston Medical School followed by a residency at the University of South Florida Department of Ophthalmology and a fellowship at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa, Florida. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas A & M University-College Station in 1981.
Dr. Vergara is a United States veteran having served in the United States Marine Corps as a Basic Infantry Officer, a United States Naval Aviator (pilot), a United States Nuclear/Biological/Chemical Defense Warfare Officer, and as a United States Army Air Defense Missile Commander.
Dr. Vergara will be providing the latest ophthalmological services, including comprehensive ophthalmologic medical and surgical diagnosis, cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery, refractive surgery LASIK, PRK, intraocular contact lenses, pterygium surgery, biopsies, medical retina, intraocular Avastin injections, Laser therapeutic modalities, medical pediatrics ophthalmology, strabismus evaluation, eyelid blepharoplasty, eyeglass refractions and prescriptions, and retinoscopy.
“We are excited to have Dr. Vergara join the practice at Southwest Texas Eye Care Associates and are confident that he will provide the highest ophthalmological services to our existing and new patients,” said Dr. Rodriguez.
Also joining Southwest Texas Eye Care Associates is Dr. Monique Nguyen, a Doctor of Optometry. Dr. Nguyen joined in February 2014. She is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry, earning her Doctor of Optometry in 2013. She also earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of California, Los Angeles, (UCLA) in 2007.
Dr. Nguyen did her internship at the Meredith W. Morgan University Eye Center at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry.
Dr. Nguyen provides comprehensive optometry services including eye exams, contact lenses, eye glasses, ocular diseases, and other eye care services.
“We are pleased to have Dr. Nguyen join our optometry practice at Southwest Texas Eye Care Associates. She has already received a warm reception from our community and patients,” said Dr. Rodriguez.
In May 2015, Southwest Texas Eye Care Associates will once again expand its optometry services to all its Middle Rio Grande region patients with the addition of Dr. Priscilla Rodriguez Heredia, daughter of Dr. Carlos E. Rodriguez and Angie Rodriguez.
The addition of Drs. Vergara and Nguyen is to meet the growing needs of our community as well as provide new leadership in the ophthalmology and optometry fields in Eagle Pass and the Middle Rio Grande region. The future addition of Dr. Heredia in 2015 is to provide the next generation of local optometry professionals an opportunity to serve the community.
Thirty years ago, native Eagle Passan Dr. Carlos E. Rodriguez founded Southwest Texas Eye Care Associates offering the latest ophthalmological services including medical and surgical diseases of the eye for residents of Eagle Pass and the Middle Rio Grande region. Never in his dreams did he imagine that his practice would grow to become the leading ophthalmology and optometry practice in the community. He also founded Southwest Texas Optical, which now has two locations in Eagle Pass, to serve the eyewear and contact lenses needs of the community.
After working 30 years in treating the medical and surgical diseases of the eye for Middle Rio Grande residents, Dr. Rodriguez has decided to retire and pass the torch of Southwest Texas Eye Care Associates to Drs. Vergara, Nguyen, and soon to graduate Dr. Rodriguez Heredia while focusing on the management and administration of Southwest Texas Eye Care’s practice.
Dr. Rodriguez thanks the residents of the Middle Rio Grande region for their loyal trust and patronage during the past 30 years and requests the community to continue supporting the new professional leadership under Drs. Vergara and Nguyen at Southwest Texas Eye Care Associates, whom will continue the mission of providing excellent and professional eye care as established by Dr. Rodriguez.
