Maverick County Veterans Recognized at Eagle Pass Main Street Program Exhibit

Eagle Pass Main Street Program Director, Jose “Joe” Cruz, and Eagle Pass Back in the Day Facebook Page Founder, Jeff Taylor, combined their talents and resources to honor and recognize the thousands of Maverick County Veterans who have served in all branches of the United States Military since the founding of Maverick County in 1849 to the present in the form of a historical photographic and paraphernalia exhibit at local pharmacist and retired veteran, Joaquin Davila, building in downtown Eagle Pass, located at 400 Main Street, during November 21-22, 2013.
The grand opening of the Maverick County Veterans Exhibit was on Thursday, November 21st, at 5 P.M. with over 75 persons attending the event. The Maverick County Veterans Exhibit will remain open until Friday, November 22, 2013, from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. in downtown Eagle Pass at the former Hometown Pharmacy location at the intersection of Main Street and Jefferson Street. The Maverick County Veterans Exhibit is open to the public and admission is free. This is an important historical event and much needed exhibit that is worth personally visiting and seeing the thousands of brave and courageous Maverick County Veterans who have served in the various branches of the United States military.
Eagle Pass Assistant City Manager Rafael Garza was Master of Ceremony at the grand opening reception. Jose “Joe” Cruz welcomed the guests to the exhibit and thanked Mr. Joaquin Davila for allowing the use of his building to host the important historical Veterans exhibition. Cruz also thanked Jeff Taylor and Arturo Padilla of Eagle Pass Back in the Day Facebook for their collaboration in organizing and collecting the material for the exhibit. Lizzette Sanchez honored the Veterans and guests in attendance with a heart-warming rendition of the United States National Anthem. Jeff Taylor thanked all the Maverick County Veterans who participated and donated materials to the exhibit. Charlie Frausto played his guitar and sang and dedicated his song to the veterans of Maverick County.
Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English Cantu attended the Maverick County Veterans Exhibit, City Secretary Maria D. Velasquez attended, Eagle Pass Fire Department Chief Jesus Rodriguez, a U.S. Marine veteran, attended, Eagle Pass Police Department Police Chief Alberto Guajardo, a U.S. Army veteran, attended, Korean War veteran E.K. Taylor attended, Fort Duncan Museum Curator John Stockley attended, and many more local veterans and family members attended the grand opening.
The public is invited to attend the Maverick County Veterans Exhibit on Friday, November 22nd, from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. and enjoy the patriotic and historical tribute to our community’s veterans. Admission is free.
