Eagles upset Mission Sharyland 10-9 in 8th inning to win Regional Quarter-Finals Championship

The Eagle Pass High School Eagles rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at 9-9 and sent it into extra innings as the Eagles loaded the bases with two outs in the eighth inning when standout Eagle second baseman R.. J. Ruiz drew the Mission Sharyland Rattler pitcher Pancho Martinez to balk and bring in the winning run to upset the second-ranked state team Mission Sharyland Rattlers 10-9 to clinch the Regional Quarter-Finals Championship and now advance to the Regional Sem-Finals Championship next week against San Antonio Johnson Jaguars.
Eagles Head Baseball Coach Reynol Mendoza in an exclusive interview with the Eagle Pass Business Journal immediately after the game stated that “it was an amazing game. The win was a total team effort as the players never gave up and battled until the last out was made in the game.”
Coach Mendoza also stated that the Eagles and San Antonio Johnson Jaguars had previously agreed that if they met in the Regional Semi-Finals Championship series they would do a home and home series giving Eagle Passans an opportunity to attend and see a playoff game at the Eagle Pass Independent School District Student Activity Center’s Baseball Field. Coach Mendoza that he would meet Monday with the San Antonio Johnson head coach to determine the exact date, time, and place for the series and announce it to the public.
