Sheriff Tomas S. Herrera awarded Directors Award at Texas Border Sheriff’s Coalition Annual Meeting
Maverick County Sheriff Tomas S. Herrera received the Texas Department of Public Safety Director’s Award from Texas DPS Director Steve C. McCraw on Monday, April 4, 2011, at the Texas Border Sheriff’s Coalition Annual Spring Conference held in San Antonio, Texas.
DPS Director Steve C. McCraw stated the Director’s Award is presented to Sheriff Herrera in recognition of significant Law Enforcement Leadership in protecting the State of Texas and its citizens.
Sheriff Herrera is President of the Texas Border Sheriff’s Coalition and a member of the Southwestern Border Sheriff’s Coalition, who are also participating in the Texas Border Sheriff’s annual conference in San Antonio.
Sheriff Herrera was elected as Maverick County Sheriff in November of 2004 and has served as sheriff since January 1, 2005. He was re-elected as sheriff in November of 2008.
Under Sheriff’s Herrrera leadership, the Maverick County Sheriff’s Department has implemented new programs such as the Texas Linebacker Operation and the federally-funded Stone Garden U.S.-Mexico border protection program. Sheriff Herrera is recognized both in the U.S. and Mexico as an expert on U.S.-Mexico border law enforcement issues.
