A single 18 wheeler tractor-trailer rollover accident on U.S. Highway 277 North about two miles north of Quemado, Maverick County, Texas on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at approximately 9:30 A.M. injured two people, including the driver and a passenger.
The rolled-over tractor trapped the driver and passenger inside the cabin, requiring the Eagle Pass Fire Department to use the jaws of life to open the tractor cabin and remove the two injured persons.
One person, the driver, sustained a broken leg in the accident requiring that an Air Evac helicopter airlift him to the Fort Duncan Regional Hospital in Eagle Pass, Texas while the passenger was transported by ambulance to the same medical facility. The driver was later airlifted to a San Antonio, Texas medical facility for treatment.
The rollover accident blocked traffic traveling on U.S. Highway 277 North between Eagle Pass and Del Rio, Texas for several hours as first responders had to unload the fully loaded trailer with broccoli crates in order for the wrecker to lift and remove the tractor-trailer off of U.S. Highway 277 North to allow traffic pass through.
The accident is under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Maverick County Sheriff’s Department.
