A Maverick County resident on Old Pioneer Road reported to Maverick County Sheriff’s Department that some individuals had unlawfully entered into his residence on Saturday, July 15, 2017, and stolen several items including a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu and a 30-30 Winchester Rifle.
A few hours later in the early morning on Sunday, July 16, 2017, the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Police Department observed a suspicious vehicle traveling on Rosita Valley Road and ordered the vehicle to stop, but the driver of the vehicle failed to stop and accelerated the vehicle causing a high speed chase on Rosita Valley Road that ended at Rosita Valley Elementary School when the fleeing vehicle crashed into a cyclone fence. Before the KTTT Police were unable to detain the individuals in the vehicle, they fled on foot and escaped detention.
It is unknown as of press time the total cost of the damages caused on the Rosita Valley Elementary School cyclone fence and the Chevrolet Malibu automobile.
The vehicle ended up being the same 2011 Chevrolet Malibu that had been reported stolen a few hours earlier on Old Pioneer Road. The damaged 2011 Chevrolet Malibu was returned to its owner.
Maverick County Sheriff’s Department Investigators have been diligently investigating the burglary and auto theft cases. The stolen 30-30 Winchester Rifle and other property items were found near the water canal lateral in Chula Vista Subdivision in southern Maverick County.
Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber stated that their investigation has some leads on the possible identities of the thieves and hope to execute an arrest in the near future.
Sheriff Schmerber warns Maverick County residents to take precautions against auto thefts and burglaries as they have increased recently during the summer months. Lock your automobiles at all times and do not leave any personal or valuable items inside them.
