Eagle Pass, TX Woman Arrested at International Bridge No. 1 With Possession of Heroin by CBP

A 26 year old woman from Eagle Pass, Texas was arrested on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 with possession of 0.61 pounds of heroin on her body at the City of Eagle Pass, Texas International Bridge No. 1 Port of Entry by United States Customs and Border Protection Officers (CBP).
The woman was a pedestrian and arrived at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry for inspection from Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico. After being initially questioned for entry into the United States, the woman was referred to secondary inspection. After being questioned in Secondary Inspection, the CBP Officers located the contraband on the woman’s body who was attempting to import the heroin into the United States. The name of the woman has not been released by CBP as the case remains under investigation.
The estimated market value of the 0.61 pound of heroin is $16,000. The contraband was found on the body of the woman.
The Eagle Pass woman was arrested by CBP Officers and transferred to Val Verde Correctional Facility-The GEO Group, Inc. for presentation before a United States Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas, Del Rio Division, in Del Rio, Texas, on a federal criminal complaint.
The woman will appear before a United States Magistrate Judge in an initial appearance to inform her of the criminal charges filed against her and have a preliminary and detention hearings set in the immediate future after hiring an attorney or appointment of an attorney for her if she cannot afford to hire one.
The case reflects the continuous attempts by organized criminal groups to import heroin and other controlled substances into the United States from Mexico.
If convicted of the criminal offense of conspiracy or importation of the heroin, the Eagle Pass woman faces up to 20 years in federal prison, a fine up to $1,000,000, community supervision up to five years, and a special assessment of $100.
