2017 Eagle Pass International Friendship Festival Kicks-Off March 24th

The 2017 Eagle Pass International Friendship Festival kicks-off on Friday, March 24, 2017 with the traditional “Abrazo Ceremony” between representatives of the cities of Eagle Pass, Texas and Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico at midway of the Eagle Pass International Bridge No. 1 at 5:30 P.M. as well as the opening of the International Friendship Festival Amusement Carnival at Shelby Park adjacent to International Bridge No. 1, announced Sandra Martinez, Executive Director of the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce. The 10 days International Friendship Festival will run from March 24th through April 2nd.
The traditional “Abrazo Ceremony” is sponsored by the Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico International Good Neighbor Council. Designated as the two Mr. Amigos are Eagle Pass entrepreneur Roger Perez representing Eagle Pass and legendary Mexican songwriter and singer Carlos Coral representing Piedras Negras.
The Amusement Carnival will run from March 24th-April 2nd and pre-sale tickets for the carnival are available at a 50% discount (20 tickets for $10) at the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce, located at 400 Garrison Street, from today until March 24th at 5 P.M. After March 24th, carnival tickets will only be available at regular price at the Amusement Carnival. The Chamber’s telephone number is (830) 773-3224. On Saturday, March 25, 2017, an International Mini-Golf Tournament will be held at the City of Eagle Pass Mini-Golf Course at 1 P.M. located at 483 Bliss Street, Eagle Pass, Texas. For more information, please contact Juan Cuellar at the Eagle Pass Parks and Recreation Department at (830) 773-4343.

A new addition to the 2017 International Friendship Festival is the “Flamenco Night” to be held on Saturday, March 25th, at the C. C. Winn High School Auditorium. “Flamenco Night” will be an evening-filled with the best Flamenco music and dance on the United States-Mexico border. “Flamenco Night” is entertainment and fun for the entire family. On Sunday, March 26th, professional and amateur bowlers from both the United States and Mexico will convene to compete in the annual Amistad Bowling Tournament to be held at 1 P.M. at Desert Lanes, located at 3515 FM 1021 (El Indio Highway), in Eagle Pass. The Eagle Pass International Good Neighbor Council will host a Multi-Cultural Forum on Monday, March 27th, at 5 P.M. at IBC Bank-Eagle Pass located at 2395 E. Main Street in Eagle Pass.
The Piedras Negras International Good Neighbor Council will host their Multi-Cultural Forum on Tuesday, March 28th, at 4:30 P.M. at the Piramide del Sol (Pyramid of the Sun) in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico.
The much anticipated “Noches Mexicanas” sponsored by the Eagle Pass Evening Lions Club will be held during March 30th-April 1st at Shelby Park with food, refreshments, music, booths, and entertainment for the entire family. Come and bring your family to fun-filled evenings of music, food, and entertainment you won’t want to miss.

The historic and traditional International Friendship Festival Parade will be held on Saturday, April 1st, at 11 A.M. in downtown Eagle Pass along Ceylon and Main Streets. Over 100 entries including marching bands, floats, decorated cars, drill teams, flags, and fun-filled people celebrating International Friendship Parade will participate. You don’t want to miss it. Bring the kids for this fun event.
The 2017 International Friendship Festival closes on Sunday, April 2nd, with the Eagle Pass-Piedras Negras 5K Border Run at 6:30 P.M. at Shelby Park and the last day and opportunity to enjoy all the mechanical carnival rides at the Amusement Carnival at Shelby Park.
