Eagle Pass Eagles kick-off football season against Weslaco East Wildcats

The Eagle Pass High School Eagles kick-off the 2013 Texas High School Football Season this Friday, August 30, 2013, against the perennially tough Weslaco East High School Wildcats at 7:30 P.M. at the Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Football Stadium in the Eagle Pass Independent School District Student Activity Center, announced Eagles Head Coach Tom Gonzalez.
The Eagles will have 24 returning lettermen with six offensive starters and seven defensive starters. On offense, junior Quarterback Ty Chisum will lead the Eagles offensive attack with senior slot back and receiver Aaron Morales, senior wide receiver R. J. Ruiz, wide receiver Chris Perez, wide receiver Louis Cortez, running back Jesse Sanchez, running back Oliver Cortez, and offensive linemen Juan Martinez, Robert Sanchez, and Leo Lopez. On defense, the Eagles will be lead by senior defensive back Kevin Chisum, senior defensive back R. J. Ruiz, junior outside linebacker Rudy Valdez, outside linebacker Guillermo Hernandez, middle linebacker Mike Montalvo, defensive end Alex Hinojosa, defensive end Isaac Hernandez, nose tackle Rolando Fernandez, defensive back Chris Flores, defensive back Aaron Morales, linebacker Saul Garcia, defensive back DeShawn Franklin, and defensive back Justin De Los Santos.
Assisting Head Football Coach Tom Gonzalez are Offensive Coordinator Javier Cardenas, Defensive Coordinator Roger Olivas, Co-Special Teams Coordinator and Wide Receivers Coach Heriberto Roiz, Co-Special Teams Coordinator and Outside Linebackers Coach Oscar Ruiz, Offensive Line Coach Sammy Navejas, Running Backs Coach Ricardo Gonzalez, Receivers Coach Mario Garcia, Inside Linebackers Coach Ricky Ruiz, Defensive Line Coach Joe Villa, Secondary Coach Pete Venegas, Jr., and Trainers Brian Dodd and Dwight Arganbright. The Eagles seek to improve on last year’s 5-5 season record and qualify for the 2013 Texas High School football playoffs as well as win the District 29-5A Championship.
The public is invited to attend the Eagle Pass Eagles game against the Weslaco East Wildcats and support them during the 2013 football season.
